actinic keratosis (AK)

 “solar keratosis” and “senile keratosis”) is a premalignant condition of thick, scaly, or crusty patches of skin.

Prognosis:

potential to progress to skin cancer of the squamous type.

Treatment

Can be treated by a number of topical approaches such as Aldara, Imiquimod cream, which is an immune response modifier acting to increase the body’s immune response.

Note: Imiquimod cream is used to treat external genital and perianal warts caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV),  actinic keratosis and primary superficial basal cell carcinoma (sBCC).
