Primary Polydipsia (psychogenic polydipsia)

Form of polydipsia (increased urine output) caused by increased fluid intake.

Psychogenic refers to the condition being of the result of a mental disorder. The patient may feel they have a dry mouth or feel compelled to drink excessive quantities of water.

Implications:

Excessive water intake and urinary output may cause electrolyte imbalances.
