Lymphoid Interstitial Pneumonitis (LIP)

 

A type of pneumonia secondary to autoimmune and other lymphoproliferative disorders.

Typically affects 35 to 40% of children with AIDS and is an AIDS-defining illness in children.

Manifestation:

hardening of the pulmonary membranes resulting in compromised gaseous exchange.

Treatment and management:

There is no established treatment for LIP, but the use of corticosteroids for progressive LIP has been advocated.
