Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP)
Also called idiopathic immune thrombocytopenic purpura.
A condition in which the body produces antibodies against the platelets in the blood, which are cells responsible for blood clotting.
Condition of having a low platelet count.
Results in platelet deficiency, decreased ability to clot, and increased haemorrhage risk. Manifests as pin point hemorrhages on the skin’s surface and/or internal bleeding.
ITP is very common in persons infected with HIV
