Esophageal Stricture

Narrowing of the esophagus causing dysphagia.

Etiology:

  1. neoplasm
  2. hyperplasia
  3. Gastroesophageal reflux disease
  4. esophagitis

Diagnosis:

  1. Barium swallow – X-ray
  2. endoscopy
  3. CT
  4. biopsy

treatment:

  • esophageal dilation – bougie insertion
  • management of gastroesophageal reflux disease with proton pump inhibitors or H2 blockers
