What do hospitals teach you of life and death? Of love?

Love is not

what we ever thought it

might be

what we imagined

It is beyond

everyday moments

it is continuous

timeless and vast,

with both

the strong pull of the moon

as it draws the oceans tides

and the tenderness

of the lightest touch

it is not to be defined,

captured,

seen or heard

it is none of those things

yet it is all

encompassing

– perhaps it is simply felt

for it shapes us,

changes us

for the better,

kindles compassion,

fosters kindness

and ignites the spirit

it brings life,

cradles us,

carries us,

and then, finally,

releases us through our last breath
